Carl Waldspurger serves as Director, Research at CloudPhysics. Carl has been innovating in resource management for more than two decades. He also serves as Angel Investor at Carl Waldspurger. He is active in the systems research community, and invented many well-known techniques including 'ballooning,' 'transparent page sharing,' and 'Lottery scheduling.' Carl is a prolific inventor with over 100 patents issued or pending. During his 10-year tenure as a principal engineer at VMware, Carl was responsible for core resource management and virtualization technologies. He led the design and implementation of processor scheduling and memory management for the ESX hypervisor, and was the architect for VMware's Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS). Prior to VMware, he was a researcher at the DEC Systems Research Center. Carl holds a Ph.D. in computer science from MIT, for which he received the ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award.
